Mira Costa Boys Water Polo (MCBWP) is designed to give athletes the best possible atmosphere to improve, achieve their goals and become the best players they can be — building friendships, customs and traditions along the way that last a lifetime.
The team is coached by Jon Reichardt, whose teams have consistently won Bay League and CIF titles over the years. MCBWP competes at the Division 1 level and is comprised of three teams: Varsity, JV and Frosh/Soph.
Water polo is a non-cut sport that begins in August for pre-season training and culminates in CIF playoffs starting in November. Varsity practices Monday–Friday 6–7am and 2:30–4:30pm; JV and Frosh/Soph practice Monday–Friday 4–6:30pm. The program is entirely funded by the Booster Club, run by the athletes’ parents. A four-week camp runs June–July and is highly recommended — sign up through MBX.

Donations go directly to the program — coaching, equipment and season costs.

Boys Water Polo is a fall sport and a no-cut sport. Varsity tryouts are open to all players in early summer. Conditioning starts mid-August — two weeks for Varsity, one week for JV and Frosh/Soph.
The season starts in September, with CIF competition completed before Thanksgiving break. A typical schedule is two games per week plus Friday/Saturday tournaments, local and away.
No experience is necessary, but club play is recommended and can increase playing time — local clubs include South Bay United, Trojan and PV Water Polo. Summer School training is recommended for returning players and especially incoming freshmen.
