How MBX Came to Be
Founded in 2003 — MBX has grown from a directed-grants vehicle into a full foundation managing summer school, after-school programs, district facilities, and 40+ booster clubs.
Founded as a 501(c)(3)
Formed to provide directed grants to sports, athletic, and academic programs of MBUSD.
MBX Summer School Launches
WASC-accredited summer school at Mira Costa High School — operating every summer since.
Waller Stadium Track
All-weather track installed — $100k in state grants plus $500k raised by MBX.
After School Programs Begin
At MBUSD Board request, MBX launches after-school enrichment at every elementary campus.
Becomes MBX Foundation
Adopted “Beyond the Classroom” tagline reflecting the growing scope of programs and booster community.
West Field Turf Project
$2M funded for the building of West Field — used for lacrosse, soccer, rugby, football, and band.
Summer School “Flex” Added
Flexible, student-driven schedule for core academic courses joins the summer program.
MBX Next Launches
Cohort program to support students attending El Camino College.
Ongoing Investments
$1.12M provided for the Waller Stadium turf · $350k Athletic Center storage · grants to all MBUSD elementary schools and booster clubs.
