Mira Costa Track and Field is a spring sport and one of the largest sports on campus, with over 200 co-ed athletes. The team is co-led by head coach Moe Russell — the 2017 Daily Breeze Coach of the Year — and Steve Singiser, along with their team of excellent co-coaches.
Track is made up of many different events spanning many disciplines, from hurdles, sprints and distance to throws, jumps and pole vault. Because of the range of events, athletes from other sports often join the team for the spring season.
There are two teams: Frosh/Soph (freshmen and sophomores) and Varsity. A fall pre-season track class is available for interested students, with tryouts at the start of the school year for the pre-season class or in winter for the spring season.

Contributions support the track and field program throughout the season.

Track and Field is a spring sport and a cut sport, but every effort is made to help kids make the team — attitude is important. There are Varsity and Frosh/Soph teams, and no prior experience is necessary.
Multiple tryouts start in the fall, based on achieving minimum times for running events and minimum heights and distances for jumping and throwing events.
Meets begin in late February and run through mid-May (late May for CIF Finals). Workouts start in January for students coming from other sports; athletes work out in the fall and winter if not enrolled in other sports. Some athletes also participate in club track programs and all-comers meets before joining the team at Costa.
