The Mira Costa Girls Rugby program is a non-cut physical sports program that allows female athletes in every grade to compete and develop their skills to the next level, with rapidly growing Varsity and Junior Varsity programs. Beyond a fun and competitive athletic sport, the program offers tremendous camaraderie and team-bonding experiences. Check out in-action highlights from the girls’ recent tournaments on the team photo gallery.
Welcome all new and returning players! Rugby welcomes everyone new and returning for the 2025–2026 school year. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams finished strong last season — capped by an unforgettable trip to New Zealand for some epic international tournaments. The teams are fired up, the rucks are ready, and we’re charging into this season with even more energy!
Rugby is a winter sport that begins immediately following football season. The boys’ and girls’ teams often share practice times and events but play in separate games — the girls’ team plays Rugby 7’s against area high school girls’ teams.

Contributions support the girls rugby program throughout the season.

Girls Rugby is a winter sport and a no-cut sport. No prior experience is necessary, but it is helpful.
In August, there is a short team meeting for all new and returning players (both boys’ and girls’ teams), where the practice schedule is discussed. Pre-season training begins with the start of the school year, before the official winter season (November–February).
There are also workouts during the off-season.
