The primary purpose of the MCHS Dance Team is to provide entertainment to athletic programs at Mira Costa High, as well as to compete and develop strong performance and dance technique. The team performs at school athletic events, regional and national competitions and community events.
The MCHS Dance Team takes pride in its role as ambassadors of MCHS and the South Bay community. Like any athletic team, they strive to be strong, competitive and versatile dancers and performers.
The team works towards a common goal: “to be the best dancers we can be through hard work, dedication and teamwork. We strive to continue a tradition of excellence.”

Donations go directly to the program — coaching, equipment and season costs.

Dance Team is a year-round, cut sport. The Varsity team consists of freshmen through seniors; the JV team consists of freshmen through juniors.
The audition process is a two-day clinic with one final audition. After the final day, participants are notified by email whether they have made the team. There is only one audition per year.
Prospective members are selected on dance ability, technique, rhythm and coordination, precision and memory, poise and personal presentation, and showmanship. A dance technique background is a must.
The season starts in June and ends in late April/early May. Summer practices are mandatory, running from July to mid-August, plus a dance camp in early August. During summer practices members learn sidelines, halftime and some competition material, and receive PE credit. Vacations are best taken in June or late August.
