Beach Volleyball – Boys

Season Overview

Athletics

The Mira Costa Boys Beach Volleyball program is top in the region, having won 6 consecutive IBVL Regional Championships. Head Coach Seain Cook and his coaching staff look forward to a competitive and successful season.

AAU Beach Volleyball Season. The AAU beach season kicks off in late August and concludes in Hermosa Beach in late October. Each weekend, three player pairs are chosen to represent the Varsity, JV and Frosh/Soph squads, with coaches setting pairs for that weekend’s tournament — a focused, competitive environment that gives every athlete an opportunity to earn playing time. For tournament dates and locations visit aauhsbv.volleyballlife.com.

AAU Beach Post-Season Training Program. After the season ends, players can continue in the Post-Season Training program, which awards PE credit. All 9th and 10th graders must enrol in PE or play a sport each semester (four semesters total), and this program covers one semester of that requirement. Students who need to change their schedule should speak with their counsellor to update Aeries.

Try-outs

Try-out Information

MCHS Boys Beach Volleyball is a fall sport and a cut sport. To ensure optimal coach-to-player ratios, the program is capped at 60 players total across the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Frosh/Soph squads.

Pre-Tryout Clinics — Tues Aug 18 and Wed Aug 19, 2026, 3:30–5:30pm at 2nd Street and the Strand, Manhattan Beach. Grades 9–12. Athletes may attend one or both days; clinics are optional but strongly encouraged, especially for new or incoming players.

Tryouts — Thurs Aug 20 and Fri Aug 21, 2026, 3:30–5:30pm at 2nd Street and the Strand. Complete the tryout sign-up form.

Practice schedule. Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:00–5:00pm at 2nd Street and the Strand. The season starts the week of August 24, 2026 and tournaments usually run until the first week of November; practices continue for the rest of the semester once tournaments finish.

Post-season / “Beach PE”. The high school season ends in early November. Program participants continue to train twice a week on the beach with the coaching staff; dates and times are set by Coach Seain and the athletes before the end of the season.

Parent meeting. Head Coach Seain Cook leads a mandatory parent meeting in August after tryouts — a chance to meet the coaching staff and Booster Board and learn more about the program.
