Spirited Parents’ Softball Tourney Raises Funds for MBX!
The 14th annual Parents’ Softball Classic was held Sunday, June 9, as a benefit for MBX Foundation.
Ten teams representing local schools took the field in a daylong competition. Friends and families came out to root for the teams, enjoying music, burgers and hot dogs from the snack stand, which was open all day.
All teams played at least four games during the day. Four teams made the final playoff round, including American Martyrs, Mira Costa, Meadows and a team called the Founders, coached by Ross Kay, who founded the tournament, and several players who were veterans of the tournament.
In the end, the Founders fell in a close game to Meadows, whose parent team clinched its fifth straight tournament championship. Pennekamp Elementary holds four titles. The day featured good cheer and great sportsmanship. The event raised nearly $20,000 for MBX. Next year is the big 15th annual event!
