Mira Costa West Field Nearing Completion
If you’ve driven down Meadows Ave. near the Mira Costa campus, you have likely noticed a lot of construction this past year. This fall, after years of planning, state approvals, and many stakeholder meetings, Mira Costa West Field, will be opened. Jointly funded by MB/X and MBUSD, the West Field is one of the most significant improvements ever to Mira Costa’s athletic field complex. At $2M, the project grant is the largest to MBUSD in MB/X history. Construction began in November of 2016 and included clearing and leveling the Northwest end of Mira Costa’s campus, construction of a fire road and large retaining wall. The project is now in its final phase with the installation of state-of-the-art turf, fencing and field accessories. The field is designed for multi-sport use and will be lined for soccer, lacrosse, rugby, football, baseball, softball, discus, and marching band. The project will greatly improve the quality and usability of fields for Mira Costa students as well as the South Bay community. Completion is expected by September 20. MB/X will hold a ribbon-cutting October 3 at 3:15pm, celebrating the opening of the new field.
