Boys Volleyball thanks coaches for a terrific start of season!
Like all spring sports, volleyball ended abruptly. The team had a strong start with a 10-0 record and a big win at the Best of the West tournament in San Diego, in early March. They beat Corona Del Mar easily in the finals, to take the trophy. Mira Costa had not won the BOW tourney since 2011.
The Daily Breeze, and the Easy Reader did articles on the team, as they were favored to win CIF this year. After losing CIF and State to Newport Harbor, last season, they were poised to win, with most of the players returning, and CDM having lost their two top players.
The team was strong with returning seniors, three of whom will play at the collegiate level. The team had a mix of juniors and seniors that got along well, and worked well together on the court. It was going to be a great season.
We want to wish our seniors all of the best in their new adventure. It would have been great to see them finish the season, but are glad that at least some of the season played out, and they finished on top.
Thank to all of our hard working and motivational coaches: Head Coach Avery Drost, Assistant Coaches: Greg Snyder, Brad Lawson, and Ryan Foose. JV Coach: Mike Cook and his assistant Ethan Morgan. FS Coach Ryan Olson. The boys are lucky to have had such dedicated and inspiring coaches. Coach Brad moved to Texas with his new wife, and will be greatly missed. Coach Ryan Foose was an important part of the sports psychology aspect, and is now back with the army working on mental health with our troops. We wish them the best in their new life. We appreciate everyone who supported the team, and look forward to being in the new gym next season, and making a go of it!
Stay healthy and Go Costa!
