Costa Girls Tennis competes in Finals at Golden State Classic!

Friday, 9/7/18 Golden State Classic @ Stanford University

In the first round of the Golden State Classic tournament, the Mustangs defeated the Vikings 5 to 1.    In singles, Nicole Wuelfing (MC) won 6-3, 7-5; and Haily Huynh (MC) won 6-0, 6-1.  In doubles, Olga Nagy/Kacey Feng (MC) won 6-0, 7-5; Lindsay Giese/Kendall Lebbin (MC) won 6-0, 6-0; and Hannah Bergin/Sydney Miller (MC) 6-2, 6-1.

In the quarterfinals of the Golden State Classic tournament, the Mustangs defeated the Knights 4 to 2.  In singles, Audrey Vo (MC) won 6-3, 6-1.  In doubles, Lindsay Giese/Nicole Wuelfing (MC) won 6-3, 6-4; Kacey Feng/Sydney Vo (MC) won 6-2, 6-2; and Olga Nagy/Peyton Douglas (MC) won 6-1, 7-6(3).

Saturday, 9/8/18 Golden State Classic @ Stanford University

In the semifinals of the Golden State Classic tournament, the Mustangs defeated the Cats, the defending CIF NorCal champions and the 2016 Golden State Classic champions, 4 to 2.  Although the Mustangs did not win any singles matches, the team swept the doubles matches.  In doubles, Lindsay Giese/Nicole Wuelfing (MC) won 6-2, 6-0; Kacey Feng/Sydney Vo (MC) won 6-2, 6-1; and Olga Nagy/Payton Douglas (MC) won 6-3, 6-2.  After winning their match to tie the overall match score, Olga and Peyton, under the tournament match tiebreak rules, went on to play a 10-point match tiebreak and won 10-1, winning the match for the Mustangs.

In the finals of the Golden State Classic tournament, the Mustangs were unable to win any matches against the Sea Kings; as a result, Mira Costa finished in second place in the tournament, the highest result any MCHS girls tennis team has ever achieved.
