Costa Boys tennis team wins the second annual Golden State Classic!

Golden State Classic

In the first round of the Golden State Classic tournament @Menlo-Atherton High School, the Mustangs defeated Menlo-Atherton 5 to 1.    In singles, Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won 6-2; Kyle Sillman (MC) won 6-1; and Matthew Poh (MC) won 6-1.  In doubles, Ethan Han/Max Wuelfing (MC) won 7-5; and Tanner Chen/Kelly Giese (MC) won 6-3.

In the quarterfinals of the Golden State Classic tournament @ Sacred Heart Prep, the Mustangs defeated Monta Vista 5-1  In singles, Kyle Sillman (MC) won 6-2; and Matthew Poh (MC) won 6-3.  In doubles, Ethan Han/Max Weulfing (MC) won 7-6 (2); Tanner Chen/Kelly Giese (MC) won 6-2; and Kyle Chen/Nick Darrow (MC) won 6-3.

In the semifinals of the Golden State Classic tournament @Sacred Heart Prep, the Mustangs defeated Bellarmine 4-2.  In singles, Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won 7-6(4); and Matthew Poh (MC) won 6-4 after being down 1-4.  In doubles, Ethan Han/Max Weulfing (MC) won 7-5 after being down 2-5; and Nick Darrow/Noah Gonalons (MC) won 6-3.

In the finals of the Golden State Classic tournament @Menlo High School, the Mustangs defeated Canyon Crest 3-3 (27-22 in games) to win the championship.  Although the Mustangs did not win any doubles matches, the team swept the singles matches, in which Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won 6-2; Kyle Sillman (MC) won 6-1; and Matthew Poh (MC) won 6-1.

In a non-league match at Arcadia High School, the unranked Mustangs defeated the Apaches, the #5 ranked team in Division 1.  In singles, Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won three sets 7-5, 6-2, and 6-0; and Matthew Poh (MC) won two sets 6-4 and 6-0.  In doubles, Ethan Han/Max Wuelfing (MC) won three sets 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1; and Tanner Chen/Kelly Giese (MC) won one set 7-5.

In a non-league match at Mira Costa High School, the Mustangs defeated the Loyola Cubs.  In singles, Matthew Poh (MC) won three sets 6-0, 6-0, and 7-6(3); and Max Wuelfing (MC) won three sets 6-4, 6-0, and 6-0.  In doubles, Ethan Han/Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won three sets 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2; and Tanner Chen/Kelly Giese (MC) won one set 6-0.
