Boys Tennis moves on to Regionals after CIF loss in Semifinals!

Mira Costa’s CIF playoff run came to an end at University High School, the Mustangs losing 6-11 (one match unplayed because of time restraints) to the University Trojans.  In singles, Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won two sets 6-1, and 6-0;  Matthew Poh won one set 7-6(2); and Kyle Sillman (MC) won one set 7-5.  In doubles, Ethan Han/Max Weulfing (MC) won two sets 6-4 and 6-0.  The Mustangs will next play in the State Regionals on Friday, May 17, at The Claremont Club, against an opponent to be determined.

In a match that was not decided until the final set, the Mustangs defeated the Apaches at the Manhattan Country Club 10-8.  In singles, Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won three sets 7-6(3) (a key set in the first round to set the tone, with Tim coming back from being down 1-4), 6-2, and 6-1;  and Kyle Sillman (MC) won one set 6-1.  In doubles, Ethan Han/Max Weulfing (MC) won two sets 6-2 and 6-1;  Nick Darrow/Matthew Poh (MC) won three sets 6-3, 6-2, and 6-4 (the deciding set in the last round); and Tanner Chen/Kelly Giese (MC) won one set 7-5.
