Boys Soccer Team looks forward to start of Bay League season!
The Varsity Boys’ Soccer team finished up their pre-season on Friday, Jan. 5th with a 1-0 win over visiting Lawndale. With that result, the team’s record stands at 6-2-2 going into Bay League play starting Tuesday, Jan. 9th. In the shut-out victory over Lawndale, standouts were the 3 senior captains: goalkeeper Andrew Fasano, midfielder Keyan Torabi and forward Robert Cook. Robert scored the goal with a header from a nicely placed free kick from senior Alex deSouza. The team now has more depth with Senior Tanner Hong, now healthy, and back controlling the midfield with his ability to cover so much ground.
In the South High Holiday Tournament that took place right before Christmas, Varsity played 3 games starting with a 3-0 win over Lynwood. They lost a tough second round match 1-0 to eventual champion Santa Barbara. The third game ended in a 3-3 tie with Hawthorne, but Costa lost in a shoot-out.
Other outstanding, consistent players have been senior defenders Nick Keenan, Anthony Orozco and Brad Hofmeister. Senior midfielder Cooper Arak and junior forward Josh Gaudiano have also been very valuable to the team’s success. They are now prepared and ready for the 10 game Bay League schedule, starting next week with a very realistic goal of finishing on top.
