Costa Boys Beach Volleyball remains undefeated halfway through the season!
The Costa Boys Beach volleyball season started in August and is at the halfway point. Costa is undefeated at all three levels.
In the season opener, Costa faced PV High and Saddleback Valley Christian. At the varsity level, juniors Jack Walmer and Jack Hopkins played on Court 1, junior Dain Johnson and sophomore Ben Coordt played on Court 2, and junior Luke Snyder and sophomore Kalani Rusher played on Court 3. Walmer and Hopkins faced two tough opponents, requiring a third set tie-breaker to get the win against both PV and Saddleback. Johnson and Coordt dispensed of PV in two straight sets, but went to a third set to win against Saddleback. Snyder and Rusher won against both high schools in straight sets. Ultimately with wins on each court, Costa started the season 2-0.
The next week Costa faced off against Redondo. On Court 1, Johnson and Walmer faced a tough battle, losing in three sets. Junior Chase Coppedge and senior Lauch Farris on Court 2 and Snyder and senior Will Bond on Court 3 defeated their opponents in straight sets, giving Costa the win against Redondo. Palisades Charter forfeited their match against Costa, bringing Costa to 4-0 for the season.
Costa next faced Loyola and Notre Dame. Walmer and Coordt were on Court 1 and defeated Loyola in straight sets, as did Rusher and Coppedge on Court 3. Farris and senior Adam Sevier fell in three on Court 2. However, with wins on Courts 1 and 3, Costa won the dual. All three varsity pairs swept Notre Dame without dropping a set, bringing the Costa record to 6-0.
The JV team and the Frosh team remain undefeated as well against these same schools.
Costa will face re-matches against Bay League opponents, Redondo, Palisades, Loyola, and Notre Dame, in the hunt for the Bay League title and ultimately the IBVL Championship.
