Boys Basketball – End of 2025 Season

The Mustangs capped off their historic 31-5 basketball season with a trip to Toyota Arena, where they narrowly fell short 63-60 to Los Alamitos in the Division 1 Southern Section championship game. It was the program’s first time ever reaching a CIF basketball final.

In the Division 1 CIF State tournament, Costa advanced to the Regional Semi-Final before losing to rival Redondo 72-66 on the road. We salute the players for their dedication and commitment to the team this season. We couldn’t be more proud of our team’s extraordinary effort, heart, and team spirit.

Our End-of-Season Banquet will be held on April 9th, honoring our players at all levels and celebrating our graduating seniors. This is our chance to recognize the hard work, dedication, and incredible spirit of our entire Mustang basketball family.

We encourage all new and returning basketball players to register for the Summer Basketball Program with MBX when registration launches on April 10!

Tryout Info

Boys Basketball is a Winter Sport.
Boys Basketball is a cut sport. There are 3 tryout periods. They are: In the fall during the first two-three weeks of school, after fall sports end in mid-November, and at the end of spring. Players know right away if they have made team.
Prior experience helps but is not mandatory.
The season is November-mid February. Varsity can play through all of February and potentially into the start of March. Basketball can be up to an 11-month sport. If students make the team they will be expected to be available during Thanksgiving week, Winter Break. Varsity players are in playoffs the week of the February break.
There is training and practice in the fall and spring as a “6th period” class.
There is a summer MBX program from late June through the end of July. All incoming 9th graders are welcome. 10-12 graders are invited if they are expected to be on team following year. It is not mandatory but most players participate. We follow rules of MBX regarding how many days missed can still get you credit for class (3 days). The class is offered for PE credit. Frosh players who participate coming into 9th grade will be invited to games during the week and on weekend. These are not mandatory but all will be included in some summer games
