POPS and Jazz Concerts

Everyone is looking forward to our two final Band Concerts of the season.

Costa’s award winning Jazz Bands will perform first on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7 PM in the MCHS Small Theatre (Tickets are $10 and FREE for students with ID and senior Citizens).

Next up is the Pops Concert which will feature our 3 concert ensembles: Concert Band, Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble. Featuring music from Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic Park, The Incredibles, My Neighbor Totoro, and Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, this concert is always a huge favorite. The performance is Thursday, May 31st at 7 PM in the MCHS Auditorium. Admission is $10 (FREE for students with ID and senior citizens).

Congratulations are in order for Jazz 1 and 2 Bands. They performed at the Riverside Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 12th and did great in a field of strong competitors. The Jazz 2 Band placed 2nd in the novice division while the Combo Band placed 2nd in the High School Combo Division. Jazz 1 placed 6th in the Top High School Division. Congratulations to all the hardworking and talented students.

While most groups are wrapping up their school year, Costa Band is already deep into planning and practicing for the 2018-2019 Marching Season. Incoming freshmen are rehearsing every Tuesday afternoon with many veteran students to perfect their marching technique and we will be having a 3 day intensive next month to start learning the music for the new season. Next year’s field show is titled “The Pack” and will feature music from Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” as well as Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “She Wolf” by Dave Guetta.

The year-end Band Banquet will be held on June 10th and everyone looks forward to celebrating an incredibly busy year and saying goodbye to the seniors.
